Achdhaph (Akhshaf) - Caananite city in the north of Caanan (modern-day Kesaf/Yasif)

Achzib (Akhziv) - Phoenician city north of Akko (Acre) on the Mediterranean (modern-day es-Zib)

Acco (Akko) - City in northern Israel in the Western Galilee (modern-day Acre)

Addar - City on the southern border of Judah

Adullam - Caananite city

Adummim - City between Jerusalem and Jericho (modern-day Tal-at-ed-Dumm)

Ahava - City along the Euphrates River east of Damascus (moder-day Hit)

Ahlab (Ahlav) - City of the Tribe of Asher, northwest of the Sea of Galilee (modern-day el-Jish)

Aijalon (Ayyalon) - Caananite city conqured by Joshua, northwest of Jerusalem in the Valley of Aijalon (modern-day Yalu)

Amanah (Amana) - River of Damascus

Ammah (Amma) - Hill east of Gibeon

Anab ('Anav) - City in Judah, southwest of Hebron

Ananiah ('Ananya) - Town of the Tribe of Benjamin, north of Jerusalem (modern-day Bet-Hanina)

Anathoth ('Anatot) - City of refuge given to the sons of Aaron, north of Jerusalem (modern-day 'Anata)

Aner - City of the Tribe of Manasseh given to the sons of Kohath

Aphek (Afeq) - City of the Tribe of Issachar, near Jezreel; site of a Philistine camp

Aphik (Afiq) - City of the Tribe of Asher in the southern Golan Heights

Arbog (Argov) - City conquered by the Isralites and ruled over by Og, King of the Bashan (modern-day Lejah, Jorda)

Aroer ('Aro-'er) - Moabite city, located in modern-day Jordan

Assyria (Ashshur) - Kingdom in Babylonia (modern-day Iraq)

Atad - Place where Joseph and his brothers stopped to mourn over their father Jacob while on their way to bury him in Hevron

Ataroth ('Atarot) - City of the Tribe of Gad (modern-day Khirbet Ataruz, Jordan)

Atroth Addar (Atrot-addar) - City of the Tribe of Joseph (Ephraim)

Azekah ('Azeqa) - City of the Tribe of Judah; Place where Joshua defeated the Amorite kings

Azmaveth ('Azmavet) - City of the Tribe of Judah near Jerusalem

Ba'al-gad - City of the Caananites in Lebanon at the foot of Mount Hermon that Joshua conquered and split amongst the tribes

Ba'al Hamon - Vineyard of Solomon

Baal Hazor (Ba'al-hazor) - City near the borders of the Tribes of Joseph (Ephraim) and Benjamin where Absalom held a sheep-shearing feast

Baal-meon (Ba'al-me'on) - City of the Tribe of Reuben (modern-day ruins of Ma'in)

Baal-perazim (Ba'al-perazim) - City west of Jerusalem where David won a victory against the Philistines

Baal-tamar (Ba'al-tamar) - Place of battle between the Tribe of Benjamin and other Israelites

Baal-zephone (Ba'al-zefon) - Place where the Hebrews encamped by the Sea of Reeds during their Exodus from Egypt

Baalath (Ba'alat) - City of the Tribe of Dan

Baale-judah (Ba'ale-yehuda) - City of the Tribe of Judah, south of Jerusalem (modern-day Tel Qiryat Yearim); Place where the Ark of the Covenant was temporarily placed before being moved to Jerusalem by King David

Babylonia (Bavel) - Kingdom where the Jews were exiled (modern-day Iraq)

Bahurim (Bahurim) - City east of Jerusalem where David was taunted by Shimei (mordern-day Ras et Tmim)

Bamoth-Baal (Bamot-ba'al) - City of the Tribe of Reuben in the land of Moab

Bealoth - (Be'alot) - City of the Tribe of Judah

Beth-cherem (Bet-hakkerem) - Area of the Tribe of Judah

Bene-berak (Bene-beraq) - Area of the Tribe of Dan

Berothai (Berotay) - City of King Hadadezer which David conquered and took a great deal of copper (modern-day area near Damascus)

Besor - A brook in Southern Judah where 200 of David's troops rested while pursuing the Amalekites

Beth-haarabah (Bet-'arava) - City of the Tribe of Benjamin

Bethlehem (Bet-lehem) - City of the Tribe of Judah where Rachel was buried and David was born

Beth-horon (Bet-horon) - Twin cities (Upper and Lower) of the Tribe of Ephraim (modern-day Beit Ur al-Foqa and Beit Ur al-Tahta - both near Ramallah)

Beth-el (Bet-el) - City of the Tribe of Judah; First capital of David's kingdom

Bethul (Betul) - City of the Tribe of Simeon

Cabul (Kavul) - Territory un the Upper Galilee given to Hiram by Solomon; City of the Tribe of Asher

Caphtor (Kaftor) - Land associated with Crete, Syria, Cyprus, and Anatolia by various scholars

Chephirah (Kefira) - City of the Tribe of Benjamin

Cherith (Kerit) - Brook where Elijah hid from King Ahab

Cuthah (Kuta) - Land where people were transferred from and moved to Samaria by the King of Assyria (modern-day Tel Ibrahim)

Dabbesheth (Dabbeshet) - City of the Tribe of Zebulun (modern-day ruins of Dabsheh)

Dobrath (Daverat) - City of the Tribe of Zebulun

Dan - City conquered by the children of Dan (the name of the city was changed from Leshem to Dan) that became part of their heritage (modern-day ruins of Tel el-Qadi/Tel Dan)

Wilderness of Paran - Wilderness where Hagar and Ishmael were banished; Wilderness where David spent some time after Samuel died

Di-zahab (Di-zahav) - A place in the desert of Sinai, on the borders of Moab

Dor - An ancient royal city of the Canaanites

Dothan (Dotan) - City near Shechem where Joseph's family herded their flocks

Eben-ezer (Even-ha'ezer) - Place scene of battles between the Israelites and Philistines where the Ark of the Covenant was captured (modern-day ruins of Beit Iksa or Dier Aban)

Ebez (Evez) - City of the Tribe of Issachar in the Jezreel Valley

Eglon - Amorite city conquered by Joshua and Gibeon (modern-day ruins of Tel el-Hesi)

Elath (Elat) - One of the places where the Jews stopped after the Exodus; City conquered by David when he defeated Edom (moder-day Aqaba)

En-gedi - "Dead Sea"; Place where David hid from Saul

En-hazor (En-hazor) - Fortified city in the Tribe of Naphtali

En-dor - City of the tribe of Manasseh; Place where Saul sought guidance through necromancy; Place where Sisera was defeated

Ephes-dammim (Efes-dammim) - Place where the Philistines camped when David fought Goliath (modern-day Beit Fased)

Ephrath (Efrat) - Place where Rachel died and was buried (modern-day Bethlehem/Bet-lehem)

Eshtemoh (Eshtemo) - City of the Tribe of Judah; Place where David hid from Saul (modern-day As-Samu)

Ezion-geber (Ezyom-gever) - City where Solomon built ships near Eilat (modern-day Aqaba, Jordan)

Forest of Ephraim (Wood of Efrayim) - Forest area where the battle between the armies of David and Absalom fought

Geba (Geva) - City of the Tribe of Benhamin; Garrison of the Philistines (modern-day Jeb'a)

Gerar - Philistine town and district in south-central Israel where Abraham and Isaac sojourned (moder-day Wadi el-Jerdr)

Geshur - Area of the Tribe of Manasseh; Independent kingdom during the time of David where Absalom fled after the murder of his brother (moder-day Lejah)

Geba (Geva) - City of the Tribe of Benjamin

Gibeon (Giv'on) - City of the Tribe of Benjamin (modern-day al-Jib)

Gilead (Gil'ad) - Mountainous region was of the Jordan River; Territory of the Tribes of Gad, Reuben, and the half-Tribe of Manasseh

Gilgal - First encampment of the Hebrews after crossing the Jordan River

Habor (Havor) - Place in Assyria where the Tribes of Reuben, Gad and the half-Tribe of Manasseh were exiled

Hala (Halah) - Place in Assyria where the Tribes of Reuben, Gad and the half-Tribe of Manasseh were exiled

Hara - Place in Assyria where the Tribes of Reuben, Gad and the half-Tribe of Manasseh were exiled

Harosheth-goiim (Haroshet-haggoyim) - Residence of Sisera (modern-day el-Harithiyeh or Tel al-'Amr)

Hauran (Havran) - Northern boundary of the Land of Israel (modern-day southwest Syria)

Havvoth-jair (Havvot-ya'ir) - Cities east of the Jordan River associated with the half-Tribe of Manasseh and the Tribe of Gad

Helbah (Helba) - City of the tribe of Asher

Hormah (Horma) - Canaanite city conquered by Joshua (modern-day Tsfat)

Ish-tob (Ish-tov) - Syrian kingdom

Jagur (Yagur) - City of the Tribe of Judah

Janoah (Yanoha) - City of the Tribe of Epharim

Maaleh-akrabbim (Ma'ale-'aqrabbim) - Pass between the Dead Sea and Zin, border between the Philistines and the Tribe of Dan

Mahanaim (Mahanayim) - Place where Jacob encountered angels; City of the Tribe of Gad

Mamre - Place near Hebron where Abraham built and altar

Medeba (Medeva) - City of the Tribe of Reuben

Meroz - City of the Galilee that was cursed by the angel of G-d for refusing to fight with Barak against Sisera

Michmas (Mikhmash) - City of the Tribe of Benjamin; Place where Saul fought the Philistines

Mizpah (Mizpa) - Place where Laban and Jacob agreed to a treaty

Mizpeh (Mizpe) - Town of Moab where David received refuge for his parents while he was persecuted by Saul

Naaran (Na'aran) - City of the Tribe of Ephraim

Nob (Nov) - Levitical city where the Edomites killed the Kohanim during the time Saul was pursuing David

Noph (Nof) - Hebrew name for the Egyptian city of Memphis

Ono - City of the Tribe of Benjamin

Ophir (Ofir) - Port city where Solomon received cargo

Ophni (Ofni) - City of the Tribe of Benjamin (modern-day Jifna/Jufna)

Paddan-aram - Birthplace of Rebecca where Jacob worked for Laban

Pi-beseth (Pi-veset) - Egyptian city that was conquered by King Nebuchadrezzar

Punon - Encampment of the Hebrews during the Exodus

Rabbah - City of the Tribe of Judah

Ramat of the South (Ramot-negev) - City of the Tribe of Simeon

Ramah (Rama) - The birthplace, seat of authority, and burial place of Samuel

Rehoboth (Rehovot) - City founded by Nimrod; Place of a well dug by Isaac; Place where the Edomite king Saul reigned

Resen - City founded by Nimrod

Riblah (Rivla) - Place where Pharaoh Neco imprisoned Jehoahaz; Headquarters of Nebuchadnezzar during his campaign against Jerusalem

Rimmon - City of the Tribe of Simeon

Salcah (Salkha) - City of the area of Bashan

Samaria (Shomeron) - Area in eastern Israel that was attacked by Ben-hadad

Sea of Kinneret - "Sea of Galilee"; Sea in the Tribe of Reuben

Seir (Se'ir) - Region of the Horites that was later given to the descendants of Esau (Edomites)

Sela - Capital city of Edom

Sepharvaim (Sefarvayim)- City from where the king of Assyria took a population to be settled in Samaria to replace the Israelites

Sheba (Sheva) - Kingdom south of Israel from where the Queen of Sheba came to honor Solomon (possibly in Ethiopia or Yemen)

Sheshach (Sheshack) - An alternative name for Babylonia

Shicron (Shikron) - Territory of the Tribe of Judah

Shittim - City east of the Jordan River, The last encampment of Joshua before crossing the Jordan River

Shunem - City of the Tribe of Issachar; Philistine encampment during the war with Saul (modern-day Solem)

Socoh (Sokho) - City of the Tribe of Judah; Occupied by the Philistines during the time of Ahaz

Succoth (Sukkot) - City where Hebrews sojourned during the Exodus; City of the Tribe of Gad

Tadmor - Desert city built by Solomon

Timnath-serah (Timnat-serah) - Burial place of Joshua

Tirzah (Tirza) - City from where Baasa reigned over Israel

Tob (Tov) - Land to which Jephtha fled from his brothers

Valley of Hinnom - "Ge Hinnom - Gehenna" Valley on the west side of Jerusalem

Zaanannim (Za'anannim)- Place where Jael killed Sisera

Zeres-hashahar (Zeret-hashshahar) - City of the Tribe of Reuben

Zeboiim (Zevoyim) - Canannite city

Ziklag (Ziqlag) - City of the Tribe of Simeon

Zobah - City-state whose king waged war against Saul
